"The Art of the Sand Shot"
November 10, 2020
Dear Members.
The 2020 Masters Tournament will be the 84th edition of the Masters Tournament. Fitting for 2020, this event will be played in November and more than likely will have a very different feel. No patrons, no customary roars down the back nine will all lead to a very different atmosphere. Tiger Woods is the defending champion with World Number 1, Dustin Johnson, looking for his first Green Jacket. The forecast looks like rain early in the week, with conditions improving for perfect conditions on Saturday and Sunday. While I will be rooting for Tiger to repeat, my picks are Patrick Cantlay, and not so much a dark horse anymore, Matthew Wolff, to play well in his 3rd career major.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Romano Bootha for a great season. Romano was instrumental in helping get us through the club’s closure due to the pandemic. Being one of the only staff members on property, he went above and beyond as he always does.
One of the many positives to come out of this summer is how much this membership utilized the club. Golf had the resurgence it desperately needed. It was great to see so many families enjoying this game of a lifetime. Hopefully we can build on the momentum we achieved this year.
I would like to acknowledge all of the 2020 Tournament winners here at Fairview Country Club:
Men’s Golf Champion – Bruce Rittenberg
Men’s Championship A Flight – Jeff Blum
Men’s Championship B Flight – Stephen Novick

Leo Simon winning Player of the Year in The MET PGA Junior Series.
Russell Pearlman winning his first Major in the 2020 Jr. Club Championship at Fairview Country Club.
2020 was my fifteenth season at Fairview Country Club. Projections have shown that 47% of our membership is new in the last five years. That’s an amazing stat and a testament to our long-time members for having the foresight to be proactive in these ever changing times we are living in. Looking forward to a great 2021 season.
Wishing everyone a great winter season whether that be golfing, skiing, traveling, etc. The Golf Shop is closing November 15. Romano and James will both be available for winter lessons. More information on scheduling lessons will be coming out shortly. If there is anything I can be of assistance with this winter, please reach out to me.
Stay safe,
Shaun

Congratulations to Paul Pastore for winning the 98th Westchester Open at The Apawamis Club. Paul fired a 6 under 66 in very tough conditions yesterday. Paul puts his name alongside David’s as the only brother tandem to ever win the Westchester Open, a pretty special accomplishment for their family.
Paul caps off an amazing summer with this victory along with his great performances in the Met Open and CT Open. His victory speech is included at the link below.

Congratulations to
Randi Nielsen,
Laura Rodgers and
David Pastore for their playing achievements this week. Fairview's Randi Nielsen won the Steve Davidow Trophy Cup this week at Salem Country Club. Randi won 4 matches over the course of the tournament to cap off a great playing year. Fairview’s Laura Rodgers fired an 86 to qualify as the third seed in the Championship Flight. She lost in a tight match on the 17th to former Fairview Alum Susan Labriola. Congrats to both of these ladies for their impressive play this week.
David Pastore finished T-2 losing in a 3 way playoff this week in Jacksonville, Florida on the LOCALiQ Series. David made triple bogey on the first hole of the tournament and played his last 53 holes 15 under bogey free to make it to the playoff. David is currently 6th on the points list for this seven tournament series, with 3 tournaments to go. David is the only player who has played in all 5 tournaments to shoot under par in every round. Best of luck to David in these last 3 events.

Congratulations to Assistant Golf Professional,
Paul Pastore, for setting the new course record at Fairview Country Club with a score of 62!! Paul birdied 2,4,7,8,9,11,15,18 and eagled number 5. Videos are included below of his birdie on #18.
Congratulations to Fairview’s
Lianna Amoruso, age 17, for her first career victory in the Hurricane Tour New York City Open at Royce Brook Golf Club. Lianna shot 75-76 and made a 10ft putt on the 36th hole to win by 1 shot. I’m sure this will be the first of many victories for this young lady.
